Board of Directors

Brett Kirkpatrick - President

Brett 1This is my second year as president and my 11th year of volunteering on the board of directors. I am proud to be part of a society that gives back so much to the community. It's important to me that Funtastic is known for more than just a great ball tournament and music festival. We put thousands of dollars into the local sports programs and community groups throughout the year and for me, the greatest reward is the lives we impact. Outside of Funtastic, I am a Family Law & Personal Injury lawyer and partner at Davidson Lawyers LLP.

 Cindy Masters- 1st. Vice-President

vice-president-1st-cindy-mastersI am the 1st Vice-President and 2013 will be my 10th Funtastic. It brings me great joy to help host Funtastic in our beautiful community.  I also have a slo-pitch team that has been playing in Funtastic for more than 10 years.

When I’m not volunteering I am the Development Officer at Kindale Developmental Association. I share my life with my husband, Laurie and my daughter, Tara. I am honoured to be part of the team that is “Building a Better Community Through Sport”.

 Sandra Simao- 2nd Vice-president

vice-president-2nd-sandra-simaoMy name is Sandra. I have been a director with Funtastic for about 17 years now. I love being part of this organization. We do a lot of great things for this community and that is very important to me.

In my 17 years as a director I have held several positions; 2013 will be the third year as 2nd Vice-President role with the Funtastic Sports Society as well as the Stage Manager.

 Steve Cousins- Treasurersteve1

I was a director and treasurer of Funtastic for 5 years from 2004 to 2009. Being sports minded and wanting to stay involved in local community organizations, I re-joined as director and treasurer at the 2012 AGM. Funtastic is well known for organizing a great slo-pitch tournament and has done so going on 29 years; the economic spin-off to the community is huge year after year.

It is also a fun organization to be involved with; but the most important to me about Funtastic is building a better community through sport.   There are countless local sports groups that have received contributions from the Funtastic Sports Society.

I have lived in greater Vernon since 1995 with my wife Tina and teen-aged children Mitchell and Taylor. I am a chartered accountant and a partner with Sladen Moore Chartered Accountants.

Diana Williamson- Secretary

secretary-diana-williamsonI am entering into Funtastic 2013  for my 10th year as a director and my 7th as secretary. Being part of this great organization that contributes to our beautiful community is very important to me.  Having grown up in Vernon, I am proud to have the opportunity to give back.  You will find me looking after the information, registration and scoreboards.

Along with volunteering as a director for Funtastic, I am the proud mom of three young adult children, Teenina, Ashley and Travis. I also work full time and can be found volunteering at many events such as the Vernon Winter Carnival and the Terry Fox Run.

Val Trevis- Director

Val TrevisVal Trevis is the “newbie” on the Funtastic Board of Directors with 2012/2013 being her first year with this organization. She is an avid sports enthusiast with a deep passion for water sports. For the past 12 years, Val has been both a paddler and a coach for the dragon boat community and a founding member of Poseidon’s Fury Dragon Boat Team, a mixed team based in Vernon.

Val spends a great deal of time volunteering in Vernon, her community of 15 years where she manages Nixon Wenger LLP, the largest law firm in the North Okanagan. She is particularly interested in the sporting community and is often involved in working toward events that boost the economic opportunities for this region. Sport Leadership is an area that Val would like to see local athletes and coaches excel in and working with the Funtastic Board has provided that opportunity with the recent partnership with Pacific Sport.

Val believes that sport is not only vital to the health and well being of her community and citizens, it also offers amazing economic opportunities for our region that attracts investment and sustainable development.

“Funtastic seems like a very natural fit that is well suited for both my interests and skills”, said Val. “Having several thousand ball players and music lovers come to our community is pretty amazing and I look forward to being a part of the organizing team this year”!

Kyla MacAulay- Director

Kyla has been on the Funtastic Board of Directors forKyla 1 2 years.

Kyla spends a great deal of time volunteering in Vernon, where she is co-owner of GumTree catering the best catering company in the North Okanagan. Her role for Funtastic is booking and working with our amazing food vendors that make Funtastic not only a great ball tournament and music weekend but also a culinary adventure!

Kyla is proud to be part of an event that supports local sport and is an important community supporter of our local charities!

Enjoy the weekend and know that your support means many charitable organizations are benefiting due to your involvement!

Darcy Sochan – 3rd Vice-Presidentvice-president-3rd-darcy-sochan

I was raised in Vernon and briefly moved up north to Fort Nelson for 5 yrs. I credit my move back to the Okanagan to the Funtastic Tournament. I was involved with bringing our Ft. Nelson slow-pitch team to participate in the Funtastic fun in 1991. It was then that I realized what I took for granted with all the Vernon area had to offer. So with my wife Cheryl, we made plans to move by the following year.

I had organized a team for the next 16 years of Funtastic, with several friends coming from outside area. In 2008, I decided it was time to change from participant to volunteer. I joined the Funtastic Executive Team taking on the responsibilities of equipment, scheduling, and fields. Outside of Funtastic, I am a realtor with Century 21 Executives.

Akbal Mund- DirectorAkbal 2

I moved to Vernon in 1993 from New Westminster, have been involved in Funtastic since 1994 as a player and volunteer.

I have been involved in the Vernon sport community as a player in slo-pitch and orthodox ball, men's soccer and as a coach of women's competitive soccer.

I also am busy as a volunteer with many events in this fabulous city, from the Terry Fox Run to the BC Winter Games.

Tim Reardon – Music Director

music-director-tim-reardonTim Reardon brings his experience in the music industry to the board and manages the A&W Funtastic Music Festival. Playing music professionally for more than 28 years and a 21 year member of the popular band "The Young'uns", Tim is the natural choice for music director. He has been involved with the Funtastic for many years and has seen it change from its humble beginnings to the present day.

His hand on the pulse of the local and Canadian music scene enables him to get the job done; from booking the headliners andlocal acts, to the sound, stage and lighting. Tim's committed to the Funtastic's success and as a musician and business owner (Tutor Tech Computers), knows that the key to running a successful music festival is keeping balance between the talent and the budget.

Roel Van De Commenacker – Director

Roel Bio picStarting as a volunteer with Funtastic in 2010 was a great experience to see the impact Funtastic has in supporting the community with the economic spin-off of Canada’s greatest Slow-pitch & Music Fest. To get more involved in this fantastic organization, I became a Director in 2011. Together with the other Directors it is a great way to build a better community through sport. Every year since 2009, we are proud to award funds to local organizations from the Funtastic Community Grant Program!

In July 2008 I moved to Coldstream with my family from The Netherlands. I regret only one thing: I wished we moved earlier to the funtastic Okanagan. Outside of Funtastic, I like being in the outdoors and having fun with my partner Corinne and my 17 year old twins Thomas & Noelle.
